Katy Perry Biography

Katy Perry was born October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California, United States. She is an American pop musician. Katy Perry rebranded herself as a larger-than-life pop star and rose to prominence during the summer of 2008. Before she topped the charts with songs like "I Kissed a Girl" and "California Gurls", though, she spent the better part of a decade recording music under a different name.

Katy Perry lived in a Christian household, given that her parents are both pastors. Even though Perry was prohibited to music aside from Christian songs, Freddie Mercury’s and Alanis Morissette’s hits caught her attention during a slumber party she attended with her friends. Christian music, however, remained as her main focus.

In fact, in 2001, Perry came up with her self-titled album: "Katy Hudson" composed of Christian tracks. Eventually, however, she decided to move away from that genre as well as her real surname in order for her to pursue a career in pop music. Perry was credited as a guest judge on the seventh series of the British television show The X Factor; has released a fragrance called "Purr"; and will appear in the upcoming 2011 film The Smurfs.

Perry had a long relationship with Travie McCoy; she married Russell Brand on October 23, 2010. Currently she's set to release her new album Teenage Dream in summer 2010 and will be seen on the panel of the next X Factor series as a guest judge stand-in for Dannii Minogue.
